Czech Republic Manager Silhavy Resigns After Euro 2024 Qualification

The Czech Republic secured their place in Euro 2024 with a convincing 3-0 win over Moldova on Monday. However, the celebration was short-lived as manager Jaroslav Silhavy shockingly announced his resignation just moments after the qualification.

The victory was overshadowed by Silhavy’s decision to send three players—Vladimir Coufal, Jakub Brabec, and Jan Kuchta—home for allegedly breaking internal rules by being spotted in a nightclub before the game.

Silhavy, who had been at the helm for over five years, will not lead the Czech Republic in the upcoming Euros. The former Slavia Prague boss faced criticism during the qualification period for the team’s struggles against supposedly weaker opponents and the lack of an attractive playing style.

Despite the successful qualification, Silhavy revealed his pre-existing decision not to continue, citing enormous pressure and factors contributing to the choice. He informed the president of the Czech Republic football association, Petr Fouska, about his decision.

Silhavy emphasized that the resignation wasn’t just about him but involved the entire implementation team. He expressed confidence in the team’s achievements, leaving behind positive results.

The Czech Republic finished as Group E runners-up, surprising many by securing qualification ahead of disappointing Poland and behind surprise package Albania. Silhavy, who took charge in September 2018, previously guided the Czechs to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, where they advanced from the same group as England, Scotland, and Croatia.
