Ambazonian Interim Government Warns International Footballers Against Football Gala in Victoria, Cameroon

The Interim Government (IG) of Ambazonia issues a stern warning against a planned football gala tournament in Victoria, Ambazonia, on November 30, citing concerns about potential risks and the safety of the local population.

Background on Ambazonia

Victoria, Ambazonia, is the capital of the self-proclaimed Federal Republic of Ambazonia, seeking independence from Cameroon. The region has been in conflict for nearly eight years.

The IG, led by President Chris Anu, declares a total lockdown for Victoria and Fako County on the scheduled tournament day, urging businesses and transportation services to cease operations. The IG expresses concern that organizing a football match during the ongoing conflict could exacerbate tensions and jeopardize the safety of the people in Ambazonia.

President Anu states that while they understand Cameroon’s desire to promote normalcy through sports, they believe the current circumstances in Ambazonia demand a different approach. The IG questions the motivation behind the tournament, suggesting political agendas over genuine love for football.

Appeal to International Footballers

The IG appeals directly to international footballers invited by Samuel Eto’o, including Austin Okocha, Emmanuel Amuneke, Garba Lawal, Daniel Amokachi, and Victor Ikpeba, urging them to reconsider their involvement due to potential risks.

Risks and Consequences

President Anu emphasizes the high risks associated with holding the tournament in Victoria and warns that the consequences could be severe, urging caution and reconsideration.

The IG emphasizes the need to prioritize the pursuit of freedom and justice, discouraging activities that may undermine the struggle for self-determination in Ambazonia.

The IG calls upon all parties involved to exercise caution and prioritize the safety of the local population. They urge the tournament organizers to reconsider plans and find alternative venues that do not pose a threat to Ambazonia’s peace and stability.
